2020
Well there are many statements to make about how 2020 was probably not the vision we all had what was going to happen. From the obvious pandemic to the social movements to support out Black community, 2020 has moved our cheese, taken our ball in our game, or whatever cliche you can think of. Getting through the year, not only in my day job, but with Pixels and Peeps has been the most challenging time.
So how have you as a person or as a business owner handled the challenges this year? Do you have a traditional job or are you an entrepreneur? Have you been active on social media? At the root of it, what has kept you moving forward in 2020?
I for one was furloughed from my day job. This time humbled me, yet helped me realize that family and friends needed me and needed this time. Using the downtime to aid Max’s LLC with labor, but also continued marketing helped me develop skills with video editing and the use of different photography tools. Spending a week to feel sorry for myself made me realize that I normally take challenges head on and I was not going to let this damn virus keep me down. Social media allowed me to use Pixels and Peeps to make new peers in marketing and to come in contact with new friends in general. Also, gave me the time to find some new podcast guests and to start (slowly) on YouTube for “How Social is Your Media?”.
This was also a time that drove me to make sure that Pixels and Peeps was making their media more social. I stumbled on a young Black female entrepreneur. She goes by @lovelylaicosmetics on Instagram. She taught me that you have to be social and you have to stay positive during times in our lives that challenge us to rise up. Her resolve and smile showed me that this world needs more entrepreneurs, not more big business. An entrepreneur like her has changed people and brought people together through her excellent lip care products.
With all of this, I hope that if you are reading this that you are in good health and doing your part to bring good back to our society. This can be from simple tasks as opening a door to offering a service that you know you do not normally, but could benefit somebody. Have you taken your ego out of your business to help a peer in your business space?
Yes I opened Pixels and Peeps, LLC to make money to support my family, but my mission statement with the business is to help small businesses and entrepreneurs with whatever level of social media or marketing help I can provide without robbing them of their revenues. Small businesses have to raise each other up.
Long winded in this post since it has been a bit.
Stay Social with Your Media,
Joe
